SA designer collections on show in Germany

Three of the country's top fashion designers - Terrence Bray, Craig Native and Karen Ter Morshuizen - will showcase their winter collections at the prestigious Igedo International Fashion Fair, which starts today in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The South African designers' collections would be featured at the New Discovery Designer Pavilion at the fair that attracted more than 44 000 international trade visitors and 1 700 journalists, marking one of the key events on the fashion industry's buying calendar, said Annette Pringle-Kölsch, the head of the trade fairs department at the SA-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Pringle-Kölsch, who was the product manager for the Hugo Boss Woman in Germany before relocating to Johannesburg to join her South African husband, collaborated with Lucilla Booyzen, the director of the Sanlam SA Fashion Week, to secure the invitation.

"One cannot overestimate how obsessed Europe, and Germany in particular, are with all facets of South Africa at the moment - the people, the landscape, the contemporary culture," said Pringle-Kölsch.

"The timing is right to give South African fashion and its designers a platform."
