Meet Jo'bulani: official 2010 World Cup final ball |
The official gold & white Match Ball for the FIFA™ 2010 World Cup has been unveiled by Adidas - and it's called Jo'bulani. The multi-coloured official 2010 ball for all other matches is called the Jabulani.
The name pays tribute to Johannesburg (or Jo'burg as the locals call
it), the "City of Gold". Jabulani is a Zulu word which means 'to
celebrate' - something this World Cup should witness in abundance.
L: Jo'bulani on the left is the golden version specially designed for the 2010 World Cup final to be played at Soccer City, Johannesburg.
Adidas was also responsible for designing the official ball for the
previous FIFA™ World Cup in 2006 - the golden Teamgeist Berlin.
"The history books will record Johannesburg as the second city after
Berlin to have a special ball made for the World Cup final," says
Zobuzwe Ngobese, Adidas PR Manager.
Accepting the Jo'bulani ball at the handover was Johannesburg Mayor,
Amos Masondo at the new Soccer City stadium. "We would like wish all
the 32 participating nations -including our own team Bafana Bafana -the
best of luck in reaching the final so that they can enjoy the privilege
of playing with the Jobulani," he said.
The Jo'bulani features the newly developed Grip'n Groove profile for
an exceptionally stable flight and perfect grip under all conditions.
The ball is perfectly round and said to be even more accurate than ever
before.
Soccer fans travelling to South Africa will be able to buy their own
Jo'bulani at participating retail stores nationwide - a great souvenir of a great event.
