Johannesburg has put together a dedicated public transport system that's colour-coded & easy-to-use to get all the fans safely to and from the games for the FIFA Confederations Cup (which kicks off with us playing Iraq on 14 June @ Ellis Park stadium).
The new 'iTransie 2 Ellis Park!'
transport is just another way that shows how the City of Johannesburg
can get it together & provide top-class transport for major events
... and, as everyone knows, the Confed Cup is kind of a 'dress
rehearsal' for the main event - next year's FIFA (TM) World Cup 2010.
Four 'Park & Ride' sites have been set up:
- Coca-Cola Dome, Northgate (Northumberland Avenue)
- Wits University, West Campus
- Bezuidenhout Valley Park
- Nasrec Expo Centre (gates 5 &
6)
Starting from 4 hours prior to AND after every game, transport will be provided from these sites to the games by bus and taxis, operating every 15 minues.

'iTransie 2 Ellis Park!' will work together with Gauteng's provincial
transport programme, GauRide, which will shuttle people from across the
province to Ellis Park. So to will Johannesburg
fans wanting to travel to host stadiums in Bloemfontein,
Rustenburg and Pretoria
to watch other matches benefit from GauRide.
Both iTransie 2 Ellis Park and GauRide are
run in partnership with the taxi industry.
'iTtransie 2 Ellis Park!' is
designed to be simple, easy and safe. Park & Rides will be guarded
and well sign-posted. Buses, routes & signs are all colour-coded to make sure spectators return on the right shuttles after each game.
The City of Joburg has urged all ticket holders to please make use of 'iTtransie' - rather than private cars - to avoid traffic congestion and parking problems around Ellis Park Stadium.
Sounds like a good plan!
See City of Johannesburg for more details on routes, maps, fares & signage.
