1time budget airline has been awarded the rights for 5 flights per week between Johannesburg and Maputo. This service will launch early in the new year.
This spells good news for travellers flying from OR Tambo International
to Maputo Airport as they can probably look forward to savings of up to
50% on airfares (this route previously was a monopoly and high fares
were charged).
1time will be launching its other new route tomorrow to Livingstone, Zambia - also with 5 flights per week.
The airline intends to increase its scheduled flights on the
Johannesburg to Zanzibar route over the 2010 World cup period as well
as any other additional flights during this peak season.
Seems like 1time is delivering on its promises to expand into Africa
and offer reduced fares in areas where fares have been kept
artificially high by fixed agreements to protect national carriers.
