2010 World Cup team base camps announced. |
FIFA has released the list of where each of the 32 participating teams in the 2010 FIFA (Tm) World Cup will be based.
Not surprisingly, many teams have opted for the higher altitude areas of Gauteng (especially Johannesburg and Pretoria) and North West. Both the opening game (South Africa vs. Mexico) and the World Cup Final will be played at the newly-built Soccer City in Johannesburg - pictured on the left. According to FIFA, these base camps may yet change.
A big surprise is that the Mother City (Cape Town) did not bag a single team. Perhaps due to perceptions of the dreaded Cape winters?
