9 Country Expedition to Promote 2010 World Cup |
South Africa's best-known & most intrepid explorer, Kingsley Holgate, set off this morning from the Indaba Tourism Expo in Durban. He's headed off on a 9-country expedition through southern Africa to promote the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
These nine countries have united themselves under the common banner of
"Boundless Southern
Africa" in a joint effort to show off the various transfrontier
conservation areas - areas of pristine beauty and abundant wildlife
where tourists can experience the natural beauty first-hand.
Transfrontier parks are so called as they are situated in areas where
there is cross-border involvement from more than one country and the
resources are managed collaboratively by these governments and
authorities.
Through Boundless Southern Africa (BSA), the expedition aims to promote
awareness and enthusiasm for the forthcoming 2010 world cup and will
help upgrade soccer fields, distribute mosquito
nets, donate libraries & reading glasses to rural schools and
communities.
Holgate will travel across nine Southern African Development Community
(SADC) countries, seven Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCA), two
oceans, 30 national parks and nature reserves. The first stop after
leaving Durban will be in the Maloti-Drakensberg TFCA, which
South Africa shares with Lesotho.
