SA to get 120 000 FREE tickets for 2010 World Cup 2 Years, 9 Months ago Karma: 2
With just 300 days to kick off, FIFA (TM) has announced its 2010 World Cup Ticket Fund.

This new project - a first in the World Cup's 80-year history - will see a total of 120,000 free category 4 tickets given to those South Africans who were directly involved with the 2010 World Cup as well as other worthy social and development initiatives linked to the tournament.

For many, the tickets will be a reward, especially the youth, who have been involved in existing programmes encouraging participation as well as supporting community initiatives for social upliftment through the game of football.

"The Ticket Fund aims to use the excitement and passion for the game in the country as a tool to motivate and engage people, particularly young South Africans, on topics such as education, health and the environment," said the Fifa President Sepp Blatter. In September 2008, Mr Blatter also nominated about 20,000 construction workers as the first beneficiaries of the Ticket Fund. Each worker will get two tickets for a group stage match at whichever stadium they helped to build.

Thousands of workers have been involved in the construction/refurbishment of the stadiums for 2010.

Although there is a massive demand globally for tickets to this great event, the local 2010 Organising Committee are doing whatever they can to ensure that South African residents, many of whom are fanatical football supporter can also attend the games and lend their unique support and enthusiasm to this event.
