Music Revival presents two concerts this weekend for the EASTER WEEKEND.

 

 

LISZT vs.LISZT


Steinway pianist, Christopher Duigan  PIANO MUSIC BY FRANZ LISZT -  A re-run of the acclaimed and highly entertaining ‘Liszt vs Liszt’ recital programme.  The greatest piano virtuoso of all-time, Hungarian-born Franz Liszt (1811-1886)  was a pianist of extraordinary technical and musical virtuosity.  Volume One, of this series of Liszt performnaces in 2011 by Christopher Duigan,  includes a sequence of thrilling performnce pieces  and  popular compositions; Liebestraume No 3, Hungarian Rhapsodies Nos 2 and 12 together with  Concert Studies La Campanella , La Leggierezza, Harmonies du soir ,  and the operatic  transcription Reminiscences di Lucia di Lamermoor  which represent  the varied styles of Liszt's composing and  piano playing.  Not to be missed!

CELLO RECITAL with NIGEL FISH

 

CELLO AND PIANO - A repeat of the recent cello and piano programme with Nigel Fish (cello) and Christopher Duigan playing music by Beethoven - Cello Sonata No 2 in G minor and a varied selection of short and entertaining works. Nigel Fish comes from a family which for many years have been closely associated with music in Pietermaritzburg. He studied at the University of Cape Town, in Amsterdam and in Aachen, Germany. He was an original member of the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra and was appointed Principal Cellist in 1986, a position he held until 1996. After relocating to Germany he played in the Symphonie Orchester Aachen and various other ensembles in Germany. Nigel recently returned to Pietermaritzburg where he intends to further his involvement as cellist, educator and coordinator of various musicals activities in KZN. This will be his first major recital on his return to Pietermaritzburg where he is joined by Christopher Duigan at the piano.
