DOUBLE BILL: JS Bach and Scott Joplin
JS BACH AND SCOTT JOPLIN for PIANO - A unique coupling of two very different composers in one concert starts this Decembers’ Music Revival programme.
 While at first the musical style of these two composers may seem totally mismatched, they do in fact share many common factors. Playing two suites by JS Bach - the Partita No 1 and the virtuoso English Suite No 6 in D mino - Christopher Duigan juxtaposes the music of Bach with ragtime by Scott Joplirn including his Magnetic, Pineapple, and Maple Leaf Rags along with Solace: A Mexican Serenade and Bethena: A Concert Waltz.

With both composers using single dance rhythms as a unifying factor, 17th century court dances in the case of Bach and the music hall and march rhythms in Joplin, their well crafted melodies in strictly maintained melodic sequences of equal length along with the constant use of counter melodies to provide textural interest means share a remarkably similar construction.]
