The Johannesburg Zoo is getting ghoulish and ghostly ... and ready to celebrate this year's Howloween.
There'll be Frankenstein look-a-likes, blood-thirsty vampires and gruesomely carved pumpkins to set the tone for the evening's activities.
Halloween Marshalls - dressed in all their scariest clothes - will be there to meet you. A spooky encounter will start you on your tour at the vampire cave in the Ape House, with smoke, strange lights, scary sound effects and water spraying from all corners.
Inside the dark cave are all sorts of creepy crawlies - and perhaps even a vampire!
Those too afraid to venture into the vampire cave can meet at Fairyland where you'll see the prettiest fairies, a dancing hippo and giraffe, all ready to welcome you.
Next up is the Devil’s Snake Pit where you can meet the entire devil family and their terrifying friends.
Then on to the Ghost House, the Zoo's haunted place to try and catch a glimpse of these ghostly beings. It also includes the Old Carnivore House, which was previously home to lions, tigers and hyaenas.
According to Letta Madlala of the Joburg Zoo, gaining entry will not easy - or for the faint-hearted. You'll need to overcome your fears by touching and tasting things not meant for human consumption.
Then you'll meet the sangomas and see their African magic before heading over to the Reptile House to spend time with the West-African snakes.
Towards the end of the tour, children can make their way to the fun area - fully equipped with jumping castles, animal characters and stilt walkers.
Last stop is the Tree of Light, where the “best dressed” competition will take place - and there are five prizes to be won.
Caféfino, the Zoo’s restaurant, will be open with staff all dressed up for Halloween, while the popular bookstore, CNA, will be on hand to sell and give away treats at the lawn.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their picnic baskets, filled with goodies for the night and enjoy supper near the wild lights, which will end off the trick-or-treat filled day.
