What is Braai4Heritage?
South Africa celebrates National Heritage Day on 24 September - a public holiday.- Braai4Heritage is making it their mission is to get South Africans together and talking on National Heritage Day - gathering around the fires of our collective and favourite way of preparing meals - the open-air braai, or chisa nyama - or Ukosa as it's known in some of our 11 official languages. (Even former Archbishop Desmond Tutu is a patron!)
National Heritage Day is a public holiday set aside for all South Africans to celebrate our rich heritage.
- No matter what our race, language, religion or culture - we all share one common heritage: the warm occasion of gathering together around a fire to prepare food with friends, family and fellow South Africans.
- To nurture a fine tradition for South Africans - similar to others celebrated around the globe - like the American "Thanksgiving", Ireland's "St. Patrick's Day", the French's "Bastille Day" and so on.
- Braai4Heritage was created out of respect and support for National Heritage Day - to recognise its importance to all South Africans - and to emphasise and unlock its value to the nation.
- It's a noble cause, one which will enhance the meaning of the day and one in which YOU can contribute to strengthening South Africa as a nation.
