Jozi Book FairThe Jozi Book Fair is about more than just books.  It's a time to discuss, debate, plan, collaborate, educate, network and inspire.

It's about literature.  Cartoons.  Libraries.  Poetry.  Religion.  Poverty.  Liberation.  Visual Arts.  Broadcast media.

It's about things that affect you.  And me.

There'll be discussions around the table.  Various workshops.  Encounters.  Book launches.  Childrens programmes. And a whole lot more.

South Africa has a high rate of illiteracy and a low reading culture, with few having access to libraries.  Jozi Book Fair poster

One of the main aims of the Jozi Book Fair is to stimulate the development of a reading culture within the working class, in communities, schools, educational institutions and the general public - in the face of today's challenges.

It's "Education for liberation".

Latest:

Allaboutwriting will be at the Fair and Richard Beynon and Jo-Anne Richards will be giving their talk, 'A Writers' Guide to Reading', on Saturday, 7 August at 13:00.

Allaboutwriting will be launching 3 new courses at the Fair:–

- The Power of Writing course, a one-day introduction to creative writing;

- The Key to Creative Writing, a two-day course, low on theory and high on the practical challenges of writing effectively, and

- The Travel Writing Course, by Fred de Vries, renowned both for his travel journalism, and his interviews with both celebrities and the not-so-celebrated.

Allaboutwriting is a partnership between Richard Beynon and Jo-Anne Richards who have both made their livings from writing for many years. They’re passionate about good writing, and have devised their courses to help communicate that passion – plus the skills that make it all much more than an academic exercise – to others with a similar calling.

Jo-Anne Richards is a writer and lecturer in the Wits journalism department. Her novels include The Innocence of Roast Chicken; Touching the Lighthouse; and Sad at the Edges. A new novel – My Brother’s Book – was released last year.

Richard Beynon is a television and film writer. He managed the writing team at Isidingo for three years, as well as contributing over 400 scripts to the series. He has won numerous awards for his work in comedy; soap; and children’s drama. He is currently a writer on Rhythm City.
