This year sees the 200th anniversary celebrations of Chopin's birth in 1810. Don’t miss this opportunity to hear pianist Christopher Duigan in the first installment of Celebrating Chopin.  After more than 20 performances in various centers in South Africa, Duigan includes a selection of the composers most celebrated compositions in one compact programme giving a unique and insightful introduction to the composer’s music.  This includes the ‘Raindrop’ Prelude, ‘Minute’ Waltz, ‘Heroic’ Polonaise plus Mazurkas, the celebrated Nocturne in E-flat op 9 and Ballade No 1.  Previous performances of this programme include those at Hilton College Memorial Concert Hall, Howard College Theatre - Durban, in Franschhoek, Johannesburg and for the Classic FM Soirées in Pretoria.  SPONSORED BY EBONY

Experience a musical journey at twilight with the second selection of Celebrating Chopin. This new compilation of Chopin’s music includes the ‘Military’ Polonaise, selection of Etudes including the ‘Black Key’, Nocturne in C-sharp minor Opus posthumous and the Barcarolle op 60, regarded as one of the composer’s finest compositions. This performance in the dignified atmosphere of the historic NGK Church at dusk offers a magical experience by one of the country’s most outstanding performers.  Duigan will be presenting both Chopin programmes in this year’s Grahamstown National Arts Festival.

Enjoy a spectacular evening with South Africa’s reigning soprano Bronwen Forbay.  Invited to perform the title role in Cape Town Opera’s Lucia de Lamermoor later this year Bronwen Forbay has been critically and publicly acclaimed for her outstanding performances and is the recipient of several of South of South Africa’s most prestigious music prizes. Ms Forbay includes for this grand event popular operatic arias from Barber of Seville, La Traviata, Die Fledermaus and La Bohème along with a selection of songs by Liszt, Delibes and Ravel. For a fresh Franschhoek Sunday morning musical outing pianist Christopher Duigan plays ‘Music for a Sunday Morning’.  Focusing on sparkling and appealing classical moods, Duigan includes music to delight and uplift  with Sonatas by Scarlatti, Liszt’s ‘Reminiscences di Lucia de Lammermoor’, Rachmaninoff’s magnificent Prelude in B-flat major op 23, music by  Debussy and Mozart’s ebullient Sonata in F major K 331. Christopher Duigan was recently invited by the world’s premier piano manufacturers Steinway and Sons to join their International Steinway Artist Roster recognizing his calibre of performance, artistic commitment, profile as a musician and his contribution to music in South Africa.
