2010 is the kick-off for this new carnival which is designed to bring all Capetonians together to celebrate their differences - through the universal language of dance, music, cultural and creative expression.
Using the Rio Carnival as inspiration, the Cape Town Carnival hopes to show off the uniqueness of South Africans - in one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
The theme for 2010 is “Rhythm, Roots & Boots”, inspired by Cape Town’s rich cultural, artistic and historical heritage. 
This year's main events include:
Fashion Show Thurs 18 March: The Lookout, V&A Waterfront: 19h30 for 20h00
This promises to be a star-studded event featuring South Africa's top designers, celebrity models, creative makeup artists, hair stylists and everyone who's who in the uber fashion and beauty industry.
Sat 20 Mar: Carnival Parade -18h00 til late/early??
Over 2000 costumed singers, dancers and musicians will congregate in trendy Long Street, for the biggest party and parade ever.
Artists will be performing six new Cape Town songs, there'll be big screens, dancing, community groups, artists, musos, designers, artistes.
18h00 - Greenmarket Square concert with top artists like Loyiso, Emo Adams, Locnville.
20h00 - Carnival parade in Long Street
