2010 sees the 40th anniversary of this great race.
From its humble beginnings in 1970, when 26 eager runners took part in the inaugural 58,7km race, it's grown to an event that sees around 26 000 compete for medals in the various races that make up this magical event:
* The hectic 56km ultra-marathon around the Cape Peninsula - a punishing endurance rate * The 21,1km half-marathon * The 5km 'warmer upper' - great for those running the marathon & half-marathon * The 2,5km - for the young, the old and the not-so-fit * The 300m Toddlers' Trot for kids aged 4 - 6 * The 56 m Nappy Dash for under 3s. (and the perfect time to start training ...)
Affectionately known as "the world's most beautiful marathon", the in the world, the race takes in some of Cape Town's finest sites and sights - the leafy suburbs of Newlands, scenic seaside villages of Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay, the awesome Chapman's Peak Drive, Hout Bay and Constantia Nek. It finishes on the rugby fields of the University of Cape Town.
The famous race sees runners passing through the coastal towns of Fish Hoek and Kalk Bay, following the curve of the stunning Chapman’s Peak Drive around Hout Bay and heading past Constantia Nek towards the finish line.
There's also some good prize money to spur you on - for the ultra-marathon, the first man & woman to cross the finish line get R150 000 and the winners of the half-marathon get R20 000.
