Durban: An Evening of Song, Music for Life

The young South African baritone, Njabulo Madlala, based in London, will appear in this recital with leading South African concert pianist, Christopher Duigan.

Presented by Music Revival and Amawi Omzansi Africa Foundation, this event will feature a wide-ranging programme of South African songs, as well as songs by Duparc, Brahms, Richard Strauss, Schubert, Schumann, Geoffrey Bush, Quilter, Vaughan Williams, Ivor Gurney, Peter Warlock, Guy d’Hardelot, and a number of American Spirituals.   

Madlala, one of this country’s most distinguished operatic exports, is a graduate, among other leading institutions, of London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama.  He has taken part in master classes given by many of the world’s greatest singers and has worked with many leading conductors and directors.

Howard College TheatreNjabulo Madlala’s operatic career has included, among other roles, singing Schaunard in Opera Holland Park's production of La Boheme, Fisherman in Bird of Night at the Royal Opera House, Porgy in Porgy and Bess at the Cheltenham Festival, Serenade to Music at Queen Elizabeth Hall, a song recital at the Wigmore Hall. He sang Le Calender in La Rencontre Imprevue, the bass in Mozart’s Requiem with Cheltenham Bach Choir and the King in Sallinen’a The King Goes Forth To France.

He has recently appeared in Britain with Glyndebourne Opera Company on tour. Future plans include The Cardiff International Academy of Voice and Don Fernandes for Opera Holland Park in 2010.
