GEORGE LIGHTS FESTIVAL 2008
Unity Park, George Sat 29 Nov 2008
The festivities will start at 14:00 with flea market stalls and a children’s programme, as well as entertainment, right from the word go, with performances from several school and community choirs.
This will be followed by sound offerings from various gospel bands, such as God’s Vision, Gospel Unlimited and Faith Explosion. The DARE Youth Group will perform a play and some musical items. Budding songstress, Jolene Haywood will precede George’s own emerging opera singer, Mike Baiyabhile, who will perform a few opera numbers. Festival regular, Michael Lintnaar will lead the praise and worship and invite everyone to join him in singing along to traditional Christmas Carols. After scripture and prayer, the Prerogatives will take you into the main entertainment leading up to the Mayoral welcome and lights on at 20:00. Immediately after the lights are turned on, the Rockets, a well known band from Cape Town will perform for 90 minutes.
The Rockets success story is one of determination, hard work and dedication. The Rockets have always had a definite and precise attitude to their career right from its inception, having survived both the feverishness and fluctuations of the music business.
Over the past 10 years The Rockets have spent more than 6 months of each year performing outside of South Africa. International trips have included numerous performances in Australia, various countries in the Middle East, Seychelles and other parts of Africa
This is what some of South Africa’s media have had to say about them: The Rockets are masters on stage ..” (Rapport) “Their cross-generation appeal is what makes them timeless legends ..” (Weekend Argus) The Rockets showed that they are undoubtedly one of the best pop groups in the land. What a powerful and professional performance .. “ (Die Burger) “S.m.o.o.t.h. South Africa’s answer to all those cool multi-harmonied groups that the USA throws at us … vocally these guys are good. They throw out a thoroughly professional sound, sing as sweet as honey-bees in the hive and have a collective kick like a mule.” (Cape Argus)
After the Rockets, George’s best-loved dance band, the Prerogatives, will entertain us until the close of the program at 23:00.
