This is Africa's biggest kite festival - and this year it coincides perfectly with World mental Health Day (10 October 2009). And it's now 15 years old!
The organisers, Cape Mental Health, are hoping that it'll prove to be one of the largest mental health activities/festivals anywhere in the world. They're expecting around 20 000 visitors over the festival.
Whether you're a kid (or a big kid) or an adult, there'll be plenty to keep you gazing skywards this weekend - as some of the biggest, brightest and happiest kites take to the skies above Muizenberg. Kiters from the USA, Germany, England and around South Africa will be
there to fly and show off their magnificent creations.
The theme for 2009 is ‘World on a String: Celebrating World
Mental Health Day’.
Vsitors are
encouraged to bring along their own kites, learn to make a kite at the
kite-making workshops or just enjoy watching the colourful aerial
extravaganza.
With food stalls, giant inflatables, kiddies’ rides, Heart 104.9 FM
broadcasting live and an eclectic craft market, this is family
entertainment at its best.
