This year sees the 20th annual Joburg Pride Day - and it's proudly sponsored by 94.7 Highveld Stereo. The theme for 2009 is aptly titled: You need pride!

In case you've just arrived in South Africa - Joburg Pride Day celebrates its vibrant
lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) community. It's the day when friends, families and the public at large are invited to join in and show solidarity and support for the equality so well strived for in this country. (South Africa is one of the few countries where gay marriages are sanctioned - a huge win for human rights!)
The Pride Parade
This colourful event kicks off at the Sports Club at around 11h00 and proceeds through the streets of Rosebank - led by the
Grand Marshal of the Parade, none other than 94.7 Highveld Stereo’s
Jeremy Mansfield.
Refreshment stops are provided enroute for marchers and their dogs, sponsored by
Powerade and Royal Canin. No alcohol
is permitted to be consumed in the Parade and participants are reminded
to wear sunscreen and a hat or cap.
Pride Day Celebrations The whole procession returns to return back to Zoo Lake at around 12h30. A variety of entertainment is lined up - including top DJs (including 94.7
Highveld Stereo personalities) and drag shows. There'll also be
Pride stalls (with all sorts of goodies on display and on sale), bars,
food and a kiddies’ play area.
The ‘Clubhouse’ area is on offer and is limited to 200 people at R50 each. These 'VIP's will have access to a full cash bar; menu to order food;
private toilets; and a fantastic view of the venue.
Contact Natasha at natasha@joburgpride.org to reserve your tickets.
Transport from Townships
Special busses have been lined up to help those under-resourced LGBT members to join in the celebrations. These will operate from Soweto, Kwa-Thema and Vosloorus.
