 19:00 LA MOTTE MATTHEW REID (clarinet) with members of CAMERATA TINTA BAROCCA Matthew Reid and members of the highly-rated string ensemble Camerata Tinta Barocca
perform Mozart's Clarinet Concerto as arranged for clarinet and string
quintet. At the 2008 National Arts Festival at Oudtshoorn Matthew Reid
received the prize for the best classical music performance. The
programme will also include Haydn's String Quartet, Op. 20 No. 4 in D
Major and the Sonata in C Major for two violins, cello and bass by
Giaochino Rossini. The members of the string ensemble are Quentin
Crida and Francois Azure (violins), Kevin Cook (viola), Cheryl di

Forbay, Standard Bank Young Artist 2007, presents a programme of opera
arias and song. A Fulbright Scholar, Ms Forbay has won critical
acclaim including Third prize in the fifth UNISA International Voice
Competition and the SAMRO Award for the most promising South African
opera singer. Ms Forbay’s other awards include the Catherine Filene
Shouse Career Grant for Singers from the Wolf Trap Opera Company, New
York and winner of the first UNISA Southern African Voice Competition
in 2005. Ms Forbay has also performed with the Santa Fe Opera,
Cincinnati Opera, Manhattan School of Music Opera Studio, Voce Ensemble
(England) and Opera Africa. Her programme includes arias from La
Bohčme, La Traviata, The Barber of Seville, selections of Spanish and

12:00 NG CHURCH VIOLIN RECITAL: Jacqueline Wedderburn-Maxwell (violin) Winner
of the 2008 Artscape National Youth Music Competition Prize,
sixteen-year-old Jacqueline is an experienced concert artist having
performed with almost every major orchestra in South Africa. At the age
of ten Jacqueline took up a full scholarship at the Yehudi Menuhin
School for Gifted Musicians in England and will continue her studies in
London later this year. Recently, in July 2009, Jacqueline took second
place in the second UNISA National String Competition in Pretoria. Her
programme includes Sonatas by Beethoven, César Franck and concert

a platform for young and talented musicians on the brink of promising
careers, this programme showcases outstanding young musicians in an
entertaining, varied presentation. Included are Odile Lecsh and
Rifiloe Olifant (violins) in JS Bach’s Concerto for Two Violins,
Megan-Jeffrey Prince (piano) – Winner KKNK Young Artists Prize 2009-
percussion duo Cherilee Adams and Dylan Tibisher, playing music by

special concert presented in the Dennegeur Hall in Franschhoek features
young local musicians as well as visiting musicians from the main
festival programme. Included are young instrumentalists of The Valley
Music Project at Bridgehouse School, as coordinated by Adele Bate, ,
pianist and festival director Christopher Duigan, advanced students
from the University of Stellenbosch in a quintet of brass instruments,
as well as other festival musicians in an innovative exposure
performance detailing aspects of the music and instruments. Entry: R10 at the door 19:00 NG CHURCH PIANO RECITAL: BEN SCHOEMANN Ben
Schoeman currently studies with Michel D’Alberto, Boris Petrushansky
and Louis Lortie at the Accademia Pianistica ‘Incontri col Maestro’ in
Imola, Italy. Ben has won all the major prizes in South Africa,
including the 2008 UNISA International Piano Competition, which makes
him the first South African ever to win this most prestigious
international competition. In April this year he won the Gold Medal and
First Prize at the 57th Royal Overseas League Annual Music Competition
at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London. His programme for his much
anticipated Franschhoek recital will include Beethoven’s Sonata No. 28
in A major, Op. 101, Franck’s Prelude, Choral et Fugue, music by
Mendelssohn and Liszt’s monumental Sonata in B minor. Don’t miss this
recital from one of the most outstanding young South African talents in

coloratura soprano Beverley Chiat, mezzo-soprano Violina Anguelov and

Brasserie. This outstanding team of operatic talent from Cape Town are
always popular favourites with their unique brand of interactive
performance skills. Accompanied by accordion virtuoso Stanislav

Handri Loots (flute) and Elmarie van der Vywer (viola). As part of the
service, church-goers can enjoy a unique compilation of music and text
for a Sunday morning presentation. With a wide range of music
creatively interleaved with stimulating texts from various sources,
this offers a fresh approach to the music of JS Bach, Schumann, Fauré

regarded as one of South Africa’s most innovative pianists, Christopher
Duigan, who doubles as festival director of the Franshhoek La Motte
Classic Music Festival, presents a programme of uplifting piano music
for a Sunday morning. Beginning with music by GF Händel, his programme
includes Beethoven's Sonata Op. 27 No.1, music by Claude Debussy and
Franz Liszt. A varied and enlightening programme with a broad range of

acclaimed husband and wife piano duo Nina Schumann and Luis Magalhăes
play a spell-binding selection of music for two pianos by Rachmaninoff
and Arensky. Resident in Stellenbosch, the duo have received much
acclaim for their performances and recordings. In an innovative twist
they are joined in the final section of the programme by festival
pianists Christopher Duigan and Anneke Lamont in music for six and
eight hands at one and two pianos. Rarely performed, this music
includes original compositions by Smetana, Moskowksi and a sequence of

Libertas Choir, conducted by Prof. Johan de Villiers, is undoubtedly
regarded as one of South Africa's most impressive export products. As
part of the Franschhoek La Motte Classic Music Festival, the choir will
perform Jericho!, a work for choir, narrators and musicians, which can
be described as a divine musical, inspired by the story of Moses and
Israel, and their search for freedom, hope and faith. The programme
includes music by Händel, Mendelssohn and Bach (some presented in a
totally new manner) interwoven with African and other genres of music.
The tumbling walls of Jericho come as a stark reminder that we need to
break down divisions- the walls - between each other as individuals and
all of us as a nation. We need to search for compassion and the vision
for acceptance of difference whilst still holding onto our personal

musicians. With guest performers, acclaimed operatic baritone Federico
Freschi from Johannesburg – a regular festival favourite in
Franschhoek- and popular guitarist James Grace, the programme sees the
musicians in innovative and spontaneous collaboration. They will join
festival players Christopher Duigan and Anneke Lamont (piano), Handri
Loots (flute) and Elmarie van der Vywer (viola) in a varied selection.
The performance ends with a rousing sequence of popular and classical
favourites with all performers joining in to round up the festival
