It's finally out - Witsand is probably the biggest 'baby whale nursery' all along the coast - with the biggest concentration of Southern Right Whales.
Each year, during calving time, Witsand's bay is transformed into the largest whale nursery on our shores. So come & celebrate the wonder of newborn whales as part of its amazing
eco-system.

This year's activities include mountain bike challenges, marathons, fun
walk, 4x4 competition, Hillbilly theme dance with the Eggo’s, popular
entertainers, beer tent, arts and crafts, horse rides, scenic flights,
lottery, skins fishing competition, beauty competition, largest boep
competition, Boeresport, tug of war, etc. The historic Barry Wool Shed,
built in 1848, and its grounds will be the main venue for activities as
well as the “starts” and “finishes” of the various mountain bike
challenges and marathons.
The
proceeds from the 2009 Festival will go towards the Heidelberg Child
Welfare Association in keeping with a nationwide drive to protect our
children against poverty and abuse.
The entire community of Witsand and
surrounding towns such as Slangrivier and Heidelberg are all involved
with the festival, including all the pupils of a total of five schools
to ensure the festival is a resounding success, one of which the entire
community can be justly proud of as being their very own.
