Good news to warm you up this winter is the all-new Ubuntu Festival launching in the Mother City.
Ubuntu has been described as the realisation that you are a part of the whole, and as such, want to work together for the betterment of all. Archbishop Desmond Tutu also describes it as [being] open and available to others, affirming of others, not feeling threatened that others are able and good.
This the first, of hopefully many, Ubuntu Festivals, aims to bring together South Africans of all cultures, colours and creeds to celebrate our unity in diversity through sharing together food, music, dance and dialogue.
Not surprisingly, this festival coincides with the birthday of Madiba - South Africa's former prime minister and an icon for peace and reconcilation, embodying the spirit of Ubuntu.

Top SA artist will perform at the closed
jazz-jamming sessions: Coda, Robbie
Jansen, Spencer Mbadu, Mervyn Africa, Steve Newman, John Pretorius and
many more. From jazz to rock, kwaito to pop, there'll be plenty to party about in true Capetonian style.
Of course, there will be loads of stalls selling tasty treats from all cultures. There'll also be a lot happening around soccer over the weekend - so watch out for some exciting stuff - like learning how to do the new dance rage - 'diski' on Saturday.
Come and celebrate in true Ubuntu style!
Other events in the run-up to the festival include:
• Ubuntu Workshops: Mon 13 – Thurs 16 July: helping corporate
Cape Town to find tools and mechanisms to empower employees and prevent
cultural and generational clashes.
• Ubuntu Seminar: Fri July 17: a forum to promote dialogue
among business owners and corporate executives on how ubuntu can be a sustainable solution to provide best practice in the workplace.
