As usual, the Joburg Zoo has put together a wonderful winter programme to keep the kids busy these holidays. It's the Year of the Gorilla so lots of the activities focus around the gorilla camp.
On Sun 28 June 2009 - there's a fun-run (5 and 10 kms) to raise awareness for gorilla conservation.
Weekdays, there are fun programmes for 7 - 13 year-olds, with crafts, outdoor activities and educational walks to learn more about the animals.
On 1 & 8 July and 5 & 19 August, there are exciting morning activities for 3 - 6 year-olds with a special story time and interactive tour (the little ones need to be accompanied by an adult).
Then the ever-popular Moonlight Mythbuster Tours happen on 8 & 16 July and 20 & 27 August where you have the chance to learn more about the nocturnal animals. Tours start at 17h15.
 From 12 June to 31 August, there's a special programme with "Snake Bite Jones" aka Bryan Voster - who has trained many birds & beasts for the movies. There's a reptile show at 11h00 and a bird show at 14h00, Tues to Sun only.
