Celebrated as the "Greatest Shoal on Earth", the annual sardine (pilchards) run along the south coast of KwaZulu-Natal is the world's greatest marine migration phenomenon. It's a unique event that churns up the oceans in a veritable feeding frenzy as billions of sardines make their way northwards along the coast. It's an annual event celebrated by anglers, divers, birders, nature enthusiasts, whale watchers and any one half interested in the magic of nature!
And it's the time when the South Coast of KZN puts together a host of activities and fun events to celebrate this unique happening.
There are bike races & marathons, air shows and ski-boat festivals, jazz shows and food & wine festivals.
And of course, KZN has some of the mildest winters around - so that's even more to smile about.
