Johannesburg: Aspects of Love - Musical
From Wednesday, 03 June 2009
To Sunday, 28 June 2009
Every day
Hits : 201
The first major revival of one of Andrew Lloyd Webber's lesser known, but really good (you'll Aspects of Loveknow way more of the songs than you think!) musicals.  It's hauntingly beautiful and this is the first time it'll be seen in South Africa.  This production follows a highly successful UK tour.

Beautifully directed by Nikolai Foster, this fine touring production establishes this as Lloyd Webber’s "most mature and heartfelt musical,"reported Britain’s Sunday Express recently.

The South African production will run for 44 performances only, with a cast and additional creative team completely sourced in South Africa.

The original West End production of ASPECTS OF LOVE,  opened in 1989 at the Prince of Wales Theatre, where it ran for 1,325 performances.  The Broadway production opened in 1990 at the Broadhurst Theatre and ran for 377 performances, garnering six Tony Award nominations (including Best Musical) on the way.  The show created a star of the young Michael Ball (as Alex) and a huge number one radio hit for him and the show with his opening song "Love Changes Everything".

The story centres around George Dillingham - a handsome man in the later years of his life, living a bohemian lifestyle with a taste for fine art, women and wine - and his romantic liaisons.  George’s nephew Alex is travelling through France, before being called up to the army.  He meets a young actress, Rose Vibert, with whom he immediately falls in love.  Rose and Alex elope to Uncle George’s dilapidated villa in Pau and quickly engage in a passionate love affair.

South Africa’s leading lady of musical theatre, SAMANTHA PEO, plays the sophisticated sculptor Giulietta Trapani and ROBERT FINLAYSON has been cast as the devastatingly handsome young English gentlemen, Alex Dillingham.
