Once again, Jo'burgers take to the streets in their droves, together with their four-legged friends, for this very good cause and great day's fun in the city.
Sponsored by Discovery and Talk Radio 702, the first walk took place in 2000 with just 12 000
entrants. In 2004, 25 000 walkers took to the streets of Joburg over
the four distances. In 2006 with a revamped and restructured Discovery
702 Walk the Talk we had 30 000 walkers, and in 2007 - 40 000
participants took part in the event. 2008 saw a record 50 000
participants making this Walk the largest of its kind in Africa!
There are a choice of 4 distances to sign up for: 5km, 8km, 15km and 30km.
The 5km is a fun walk,
open to anyone and everyone. It's a safe and secure route, ideal for children, prams,
dogs on leashes, disabled persons and pensioners, the fit or the unfit! In any shape and size!
There'll be heaps of free live
entertainment on the day including popular personalities, singers and
bands. So bring along your picnic
basket and relax on the Marks Park Sports field.
And it's all for a good cause - the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is the
official charity benefiting from the Walk the Talk. Laureus uses sport to bring about positive
social change. Go to www.discovery.co.za for more information
