Mirror, mirror on the ball … Where’s the biggest party of them all?
It’s the one day that Cape Town, known for its spectacular beauty, is swathed in its most elegant, glorious and fashionable creations, and when race-goers step out in all their finery enjoying social soirees in exquisitely decorated marquees and picnic areas.
 This year the fashion theme is “Glitz and Glam” focusing on an age-old party icon, the mirror ball, which has been synonymous with J&B’s Start A Party Campaign launched globally this year.
The J&B Met guest list comprises the who’s who of South Africa’s glitterati, and includes sporting heroes, television personalities, stage icons, Olympic champions, and celebrities galore.
The country’s hottest designers are already hard at work, keeping up with the theme of Glitz and Glam and ensuring everyone looks the part on race day. Many designers also dedicate entire ranges to the J&B Met, turning one of the quietest retail fashion months into a true bonanza.
Virgin Mobile After Party at the J&B™ Met powered by 5FM
A stomping, rip roaring party follows a day of awesome horseracing, fashion and fun. 5FM and Gold Circle will be hosting the Virgin Mobile After Party at the J&B™ Met powered by 5FM at Kenilworth racecourse. Keep an eye on the web and listen to 5FM for ticket prices and further details.
History:
About 200 years ago, English soldiers in the Cape invited the ladies to come and watch as they raced their horses. Why? To impress them of course! The J&B™ Met has now grown into the biggest annual outdoor social event in South Africa with around 50 000 spectators packed into the Kenilworth Racecourse. And funnily enough, it’s still mostly about the ladies! The first J&B™ Met was run in 1978 with a stake of R40 000 and 31 years later, that amount has grown to a staggering R2 500 000.
