The visitor centre at Maropeng will be showcasing a new exhibit of some of the fossil plants discovered in the Sterkfontein valley and South Africa, on loan from the Bernard Price Institute. Admission to the fossil display is included in the entrance fee for the visitor centre, which is R80 for adults and R45 for children. On 29 March Prof Marion Bamford will be presenting a lecture related to the new exhibit at 09h30. The cost for the lecture is R150 per person, including entrance into the Maropeng visitor centre.

Join Maropeng’s resident astronomer Vincent Nettmann on 15 March for a cruise through our galaxy, with stops along the way at the Alpha Centauri, the Jewel Box, the Eta Carina and Orion Nebulae. The cost of R285 per person includes the stargazing presentation and three-course dinner, with a 10% reduction for groups of 10 or more (March stargazing only).

Maropeng will be celebrating Easter with a long weekend special at the 4-star Maropeng Hotel, for R620 per person sharing per night (R400 single supplement) including bed and breakfast. A gourmet buffet lunch will be served at the Tumulus restaurant on Easter Friday, Sunday and Monday for R185 per person.

Animal Encounters will be presenting educational animal shows at Maropeng giving children an opportunity to learn about exotic animals and birds of prey and the importance of conservation to protect endangered species. The 45 min. to 1 hour shows will be held in the Tumulus building at Maropeng at 11:00 and 14:00 on weekends and public holidays in March. The show costs R50 per person.
