This popular and colourful team sport has its roots in China - and started  over 2400 years ago.  It was introduced to South Africa in 1992 when two beautiful wooden dragon boats were presented to Cape Town by our sister city in Taiwan. 

On January 24 2009,  five beautiful new standard racing boats were launched in Cape Town, bringing the V&A Waterfront fleet to eight. These new boats were built by the Whisper Boat Building Academy for the deaf, so not only do we have high quality boats, but they have been built by a very worth-while organization.

This weekend's events include various races  -  Open, Mixed, Ladies 250m,  500m & 1000m races under IDBF Rules
