Knysna Oyster Festival team gets ready for 2009 festival

Knysna Oyster Festival

The Pick 'n Pay Knysna Oyster Festival is now in its 26th year, and no wonder the team has to start preparing so far ahead.  It's a festival packed with a veritable smorgasbord of events and happenings so there really is something that's bound to be just right for you!

Over a 10-day period, the town of Knysna (surely one of the most beautiful towns on South Africa's famed Garden Route) comes alive with a range of activities, outdoor adventures, gastronomic delights, pageants, fashion shows, culinary offerings, wine festivals, The Knysna Cycle tour, kids races, naval ship displays, night bike rides, runs & marathons, golf competition, Forest marathons, carnivals, kite festivals ... and of course, oysters, oysters & oysters.

The theme this year is 'The Best 10 days of Your Winter', and looking at the action-packed programme, it's not hard to see why.  With all the sports activities, combined with good food, there's also an emphasis on good healthy eating and outdoors living.

The programme has over 100 events and attracts more than 13,000 cyclists and runners who participate in the two main sporting events, the Pick n Pay Weekend Argus Rotary Knysna Cycle Tour and the Pick n Pay Cape Times Knysna Marathon and Half Marathon.

Last year the festival raised a record R1, 165m for local charities and organisers are hoping to outdo this in 2009!
