The Absa KKNK (Klein Karoo National Arts Festival) is arguably the biggest national Afrikaans art & culture festival in South Africa.
This year, it celebrates its 15th year! The festival showcases an array of art forms from sculpture & painting to dance & drama, music & theatre. There is also a mini-city of large marquees, hosting a range of high quality fashion, home and decor products, attracting entrepreneurs & designers from all over South Africa. There's an extensive festival programme - centred on music and theatre and visual arts, with a strong outdoor character. Virtually the whole town comes alive. You can't walk past a tea-garden or coffee-shop or restaurant without hearing the strains of a haunting ballad, or a country hit, or a rock band. Every little nook & cranny & alley way is stuffed to the gills with art & sculpture - some of which is definitely amateurish, while others are refreshingly innnovative and strikingly original - with price tags in upper 7 digits! This festival offers a première experience in every sense of the word. A selection of first-rate productions that have played elsewhere in South Africa and internationally will also be featured - as well as some debut performances and established productions on the cutting-edge of Afrikaans performing arts. On the music side, there's something for all tastes, from classical to some of the best-known contemporary music on offer, featuring the likes of Amanda Strydom (her 15th KKNK), who appears with Lize Beekman, Anna Davel, Andre Schwartz, Chris Chameleon, Cutt Glas (also their 15th KKNK), ddisselblom, die Gespanne Passasiers, Jaco Blomerus, Jak de Priester, Koos Kombuis, Laurinda Hofmeyr, Lucas Maree’s welcome return to the stage, Navi Redd, Nianell, Ollie Viljoen, Schalk Joubert, Ses Snare, the brilliant, madcap Stok team, Stef Bos, Steve Hofmeyr, Wouter Kellerman, and Zamar.
Then of course, there's the Huisgenoot Musiekplaas that once again offers a daytime and evening programme, the Burger Tongelos tent, the SAB Hap ‘n Tap Feeskasteel, the Klip-innie-Bos, RSG and a range of other outdoor stages at the festival, where we have worked together with our sponsors and partners to ensure better quality and a wider variety of music. It's a place to see and be seen. It's huge ... and it's a 'hellova jol'! More information and a full programme, visit KKNK website |
