One of the most affordable luxury safari lodges within the greater Kruger Park ecosystem, Thornhill Safari Lodge offers stylish, comfortable rooms and excellent facilities.  There are 13 authentic thatch-roof chalets that sit comfortably in their indigenous gardens.  Care has been taken to create a rustic, African bush vibe  with colourful fabrics and local hardwood furniture.  All rooms are en-suite with overhead fans, mosquito nets and wooden decks.  There's also a central pool and a lookout deck.

Various accommodation options are available: twin, double and family units.  Special sleeping arrangements can be organised for younger guests.

Directions: Take the N4 from JHB / Pretoria. Bypass Witbank and Middelburg, continue onto Belfast. From Belfast travel towards Dullstroom and then on to Lydenburg. From Lydenburg take the R36 to Orighstad and continue straight until you pass through the JG Strijdom Tunnel.

From the tunnel continue for approximately 27 km before turning right at the Reptile Park and continue straight until you reach a sign pointing to Orpen & The South African Wildlife College. Turn left and continue on the R531 for about 1 km.

Turn left onto the first dirt road, sign posted Guernsey.  Pass through the security boom gate. Continue along the dirt road for about 8 km until you see the signpost for The Geurnsey Private Nature Reserve and Thornhill Safari Lodge on your right hand side.

Turn right into a corridor road and travel until you reach the entrance gates to the Guernsey Private Nature Reserve. Follow the wooden signs to Thornhill Safari Lodge.

Best time to visit:
All year round as this area has a warm to hot climate and mild winters.  Best game-viewing times are during the dry season - June - August.  The hottest months are December & January when temperatures can soar to 40 deg.

What to pack:
Casual, cotton safari-style clothes in neutral colours.  Warm jackets, beanies and scarves for night game drives.  Windcheater/rain jacket for cooler nights and unexpected showers (summer rainfall).  Good walking shoes, sunhat, sunglasses, binoculars and camera.  A thirst for bush-knowledge.

Why visit Thornhill Safari Lodge
Best Features: Relaxing and informal.  Staff are knowledgeable and efficient without being fussy.   Pool is wonderful to cool down in during summer.  Lovely boma suppers.

Bear In Mind: It's far to the nearest shop.  Stock up on batteries, medicines and another items you can't do without in any given 24 hours.  Can fill up with groups so book ahead, especially in peak seasons (mid Winter and school holidays)
