About
Stately and historical, the Lemoenfontein Game Lodge was built as a hunting lodge by an English gentleman in 1850. In its rich and varied past, it has served as a TB sanatorium for the wealthy European gentry (perfect with its dry Karoo air); later as a successful farm and ultimately, a game reserve. However, the buildings themselves have not changed, and have retained their characteristic, high ceilings, original wooden floors and wide, sweeping verandahs.
The lodge sits snugly on the flanks of the Nuweveld Mountains, just a few kilometres from the town of Beauford-West. It offers amazing views over the Karoo plains.
Ah - tis the stuff that travelling is made of. Turn off the oft-frenetic N1 towards the stately Lemoenfontein. It won't be long til you're sipping a tall, bitterly cold drink on the shady verandah while gazing out over the endless vistas. Special, indeed!
