About
Founded by the Davies family in 1995, Isinkwe Backpackers Bushcamp and Isinkwe Safaris have since grown into a quality 55-bed bushcamp and an eight vehicle tour company.
This is an ideal traveller's stop and there is a strong
wildlife theme throughout the camp as it lies nestled within indigenous
coastal sand forest. On arrival, you are greeted by friendly staff,
shady trees forming a tranquil hide-away and a sparkling pool. Add to this a pool table, bar and great food and hey, what more could you want?
The Camp also serves as an excellent base
from which to explore the many famous and unspoilt wildlife
destinations of the Elephant Coast Tourism Region. The grounds abound
with resident birdlife and other small animals to be seen throughout
the day, and obviously keep an eye out (or ear) for the local bushbabies at night.

Isinkwe Backpackers Bushcamp is located south of the small village of
Hluhluwe in the Elephant Coast Tourism region.
From Durban: Take the N2 North. Continue past the
Mtubtuba exit for 36km. Take the Bushlands exit. Turn right. Entrance
is 2km on the left (gravel road).
From the North: (Swaziland or Joburg)
Take the N2 South. Continue past the Hluhluwe Town exit for 14km. Take
the Bushlands exit (shortly after passing the Petro Port). Turn left.
Entrance is 2km on the left (gravel road).

Tasty meals are served from the open-air canteen, next to the swimming
pool and entertainment area; also known as the "Africa Bush Junction."
The meals, including breakfast & dinners are freshly prepared daily
and offer a convenient alternative to preparing your own meals at the
self-catering kitchen.

Best time to visit:
All year round. Winter is cooler and the bush is thinner, which makes game veiwing easier.
What to pack:
Sub-tropical gear. HOT in summer so pack singlets, t-shirts, shorts and swimming gear. Binoculars if you're going to do serious game or bird watching. Mosquito repellant.
Light jacket for winter evening.
Always dress warmly for nightdrives anywhere.

Why visit
Isinkwe Backpackers Bushcamp
Best Features:
Informal and relaxed. Nice pool when it's hot.
The word "ISINKWE" (pronounced "I" as in ink, "sink" as in sinc, and
"we" as we say "where"), was taken from the Zulu language and refers to
the Thick Tailed Bushbaby. These strange nocturnal animals are
classified under the primate family and frequent the lodge at night.
Their distinctive and thrilling night-time cries are part of the
evening bush sounds. Keep a look out for them in the evenings during
your stay.
Note that most people who have seen the Big 5 have yet to see a bushbaby!!
Bear In Mind:
You are not staying in one of the National Parks but nor are you paying their rates or stuck with their 'nanny' park rules.

Things to Do and See
Guided Nature Night Walk (Monday,Wednesday & Friday)
An enjoyable early evening walk before dinner in search of the
small nocturnal wildlife that is find on the property.
Our knowledgable field guides will lead you on a 3km walk in the
indigenous bushveld woodland and Sand Forest.
Bushbaby Feeding (Most Nights)
Bushbabies are shy, nocturnal animals that live in small family
groups some of which visit the Africa Bush
Junction on a regular basis, to enjoy a dinner-time snack on the
feeding platform. Come and experience these delightful furry
creatures as they roam freely through the tree canopy in the lodge.
Obviously it's the 'Game' that put this Camp here so you can either take a well advised Isinkwe Tour into Hluhluwe/Imfolozi National Park or do a self-drive. Either way you're in for a wonderful time. This Park(s) is stunning.
St Lucia Wetland Park is also on the doorstep and further north along the coast is Sodwana, the dive capital of South Africa.
