Best time to visit:
Summer gets warm but not unbearable. Winter can get very cold depending on the cold fronts coming through from the south and due to lack of rain everything gets very dry and brown.
The city is planted with thousands of roses hence the name 'City of Roses'. A good time to experience these flowers in best bloom would be in spring/summer. The Rose Festival is held every year in October.

What to pack:
Friendly attitude. The locals are a friendly bunch and a smile will help you get more than you need.
A good pair of walking shoes would not go amiss here as a lot of the sights are rambling areas like the Botanical Gardens , National Womans Monument or President Brand Street.

Atmosphere:
  • Relaxed
  • Casual
Why visit Dias Guest House
Best Features: Seperate entrances for each individual unit gets rid of other guests' late night footsteps on the landing. Even though breakfast is served, the rooms have a small kitchenette.

Bear In Mind: There are specific times that accommodation can get scarce in Bloemfontein such as when serious rugby tests are played. The same will apply during the 2010 World Cup so book well in advance.

Things to Do and See
Oliewenhuis Art Museum:
The Art Museum is housed in a restored 1935 mansion. The name comes from the wild olive trees growing in the garden.  The permanent exibition in the main house is a great collection of works by leading South African artists. The other galleries offer current exibitions and works by promising artists. The third gallery is underground in 'The Reservoir' situated in the gardens away from the main house . Great place to have a snack and relax.
Orchid House:
A cicular greenhouse housing what is said to be the largest collection of orchids in the southern hemisphere.
National Women's Monument
The monument pays tribute to the 26 000 Boer women and children who died during the Anglo-Boer War.
Franklin Game Reserve (Naval Hill):
Right in the middle of the city. Only one known.
President Brand Street:
National heritage buildings.
Golf
State President Swart Park, Kings Park
