Why visit Andries Stockenström Guest House
Best Features: The Andries Stockenstroem is renown for its in-house food - especially Karoo cuisine. If you're into the big M then please don't stay here, give your place up for other more deserving guests.

Bear In Mind: Sunday night in Graaff-Reinet is a culinary black hole so make sure you can eat at the guest house. This manor was built in the early 1800's so don't expect modern minimilistic.

Things to Do and See

This old town (4th oldest in South Africa) is tucked into the horse-shoe bend of the Sundays River and contains more proclaimed national monuments than any other town in South Africa.

The town of Graaff-Reinet is literally surrounded by nature reserve - the 15 000 ha Karoo Nature Reserve where you'll also find one of nature's wonders:  The Valley of Desolation.  There is a great sense of history and pride in the town with a strong heritage conservancy policy to protect the many splendid examples of architecture, which range from simple Karoo-style houses to stately Cape Dutch buildings.

With all its historical associations, monuments and restored buildings, Graaff-Reinet is virtually a living museum. Stroll through the nearby streets filled with architectural treasures, of which more than 200 are National Monuments. Visit the awesome Valley of Desolation and local nature reserve with plenty of game.  Then return to the lodge and relax on the pool terrace or in the lounge.
