About

Buccaneers is recognised as one of the best backpackers in the country. It's arguably got one of the best locations on the South African coastline: overlooking the Chintsa estuary and beach.

It doesn't feel like a backpackers - because it's spread out over eight hectares of coastal forest and there are plenty of hideaway places.  But it feels just like a great backpackers because there's a friendly, helpful vibe, a great bar and staff that know how to point you in the right direction - no matter what you're looking for. It feels like it's been around forever (at least 15 years now!) and the guys KNOW what you like and what you need.

There's something for everyone.  Poolside parties.  Quiet strolls on the beach.  Canoeing up river.  Watching birds from the secret hide overlooking their dam.  Pizza evenings.  Various free daily activities.

And there's a range of accommodation to suit all tastes & budgets: cottages, en-suite doubles, family rooms, doubles & twins, safari tents, dorms and camping.

There's also a lot of 'feel good' things at Buccaneers.  They are accredited by Fair Trade in Tourism. They support their local communities.  They encourage volunteering.

A word of warning: allow yourself enough time.  It's easy to visit.  But hard to leave.

Why visit Buccaneers Backpackers Lodge
Best Features: Incredible views.  Perfect location.  A family-run lodge where people genuinely like people - and know what they need.

Bear In Mind: A bit off the beaten track - a bit too far to walk to the nearby shops.   Don't rush this place - you need more than a night or two!

Things to Do and See

You can be as lazy as you like - chill around the pool all day and prop up the bar by night.
