Roodepoort & Western SuburbsA sprawling area, Roodepoort is largely residential but has several shopping & commercial hubs - like Northgate, Westgate, Constantia and Laser Park. It's got an excellent network of major roads eg Main Reef Road, Ontdekkers Road, Beyers Naude Drive, Christian de Wet Road and Malibongwe (Hans Strydom) Drive. It also provides easy access to areas like the Cradle of Humankind, Magaliesberg and Pilansberg. There are plenty of open spaces, golf courses and entertainment areas, as well the lovely Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden (previously known as the Witwatersrand Botanical Garden), pictured on the left. It's a popular venue for outdoor concerts and annual Christmas carols events. It's also home to a nesting pair of Black Eagles. Two progressive universities are found here – the University of South Africa's (UNISA) Florida campus and Australia's Monash University, in Ruimsig. An exciting development/project in the area is Cosmo City - an innovative mixed-use/mixed-income housing project. When it's all finished, it should have about 15 000 houses and flats ranging from fully subsidised low-cost units, to partially subsidised, credit-linked units to fully bonded houses and rental flats/apartments. It's planned to be a virtual city unto itself, complete with its own schools, parks, clinics, commercial & industrial complexes and police station. INSERT MAP Top 10 Attractions:
