Far Northern Suburbs

This is the northern gateway to the city, where you may still find wide open spaces and farmlands.  (For our purposes, it's the whole area to the north of the N1/November 1/Concrete Highway or Western Bypass.)

Like so much of South Africa, it's an area of contrasts. To the west, wealthy areas like Dainfern, Farmall and Chartwell rub shoulders with the shantytown of Diepsloot. 

The economic hubs of the region are Fourways (shopping, commercial & entertainment), Kya Sands (industrial) and Lanseria which is ear-marked to become a huge aviation-city development.

To the east, lies Midrand CBD, where you'll find Gallagher Estate (one of Jo'burgs top conference venues), Kyalami Racetrack, Grand Central Airport and a bustling centre of business, shopping and entertainment. 

Even as recently as 15 years ago, Midrand was a sleepy, country village known as 'Halfway House' - the exact half way mark Johannesbug and Pretoria.

Today it's hectically developed and is one of the major stations on the new Gautrain rapid rail project (to be completed in time for the FIFA (TM) 2010 World Cup).  The whole of the Midrand area is earmarked to become a prime 'shoppertainment' centre.

The area provides easy access to Pretoria, the West Rand and Jo'burg CBD.
