Baz Bus - South Africa’s convenient hop-on, hop-off, hostel-hopper bus service.
Since 1995, the Baz Bus has been a welcome edition to the South African roads – providing an invaluable service to the independent traveller. It’s a great way to explore the country – whether you’re travelling alone or with friends. The Baz Bus will take you through some of the most beautiful routes in the country and deliver you safely to one of over 180 backpacker lodges around the country. It’s a great place to meet fellow travellers and they also have info files on-board each bus to help you decide where to visit next. The semi-luxury Baz Buses are 19-seater and they have trailers so there's plenty of space for people, baggage, surfboards and guitars.
The Baz Bus offers 2 main products:
1. The traditional Hop-on Hop-off ticket:
The concept is simple: buy one ticket to your final destination and hop on and off as often as you like along the route. There are over 180 backpackers and lodges to choose from and more than 40 cities, towns or villages to visit en-route. You get picked up and dropped off at the door of your backpacker hostel. You do need to travel in one direction only until you reach your final destination. There is no time limit on your ticket!
2. The newly-introduced Travel Pass:
With Travel Pass, you can travel on Baz Bus in any direction you want to and as often as you like within the time period. You get picked up and dropped off at the door of your backpacker hostel. You can get a 7 day or 14 day or 21 day Travel Pass – valid from the first day of your travel for 7 or 14 or 21 consecutive days.

The Baz Bus only runs during the day i.e.it overnights wherever there's a star on the map - eg Johannesburg, Swaziland, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town are compulsory overnights. There are shuttle services to other towns not on the Baz Bus route - (check timetable for details).
